Ongoing: Classes

Sponsored by Greenfield Community College.
Every Fall and Spring, two classes taught by AGS Trustees are held at Greenfield Community College, Greenfield, Massachusetts. Skulls and Spirits, Willows and Urns: Early Gravestone Art in Franklin County is led by former AGS president Robert Drinkwater. The class consists of a slide/lecture presentation and includes a Saturday cemetery field trip. 

Gravestone Conservation Workshop: Experiencing and Preserving History is led by AGS Board Member Fred Oakley. Participants will learn recording, cleaning, and repair.

Free guided walking tours of the cemetery are led on Sunday afternoons in the spring, summer, and fall (May - October) by our staff of experienced volunteer guides. Every Sunday, rain or shine, tours begin at 2 PM and 3 PM.  The Gatehouse is open at this time for questions, or stop by just to look around.

Additionally, unique Theme Tours are held once a month through the entire tour season.  We also conduct special tours for schools and interested organizations and groups.

Laurel Hill Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark and outdoor sculptural garden with scenic vistas overlooking the Schuylkill River. It is a unique destination for connoisseurs of history, art, architecture and horticulture, and is the final resting place of countless individuals who shaped the history of Philadelphia and the nation.

In addition to regularly scheduled tours on the second Sunday of every month, the Friends of Laurel Hill sponsors private tours, as well as special events and programs throughout the year. The Cemetery is open seven days a week for self-guided tours. Indoor and outdoor facility rentals are also available for private meetings and festivities.

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm, Sat & Sun 9:30am-5:00pm

The Educational Trust was founded to enrich and support the Cemetery with humanities and arts programming. The Trust sponsors exhibitions, organizes educational tours and talks, works to preserve the Cemetery's endangered monuments, and collects archival materials relating to the Cemetery itself and its historic figures.

The City Cemetery is the oldest existing cemetery in Sacramento.  Keeping with the popular style of the times, it was designed to resemble a  Victorian garden.  Traversed by pathways and grand avenues, the cemetery provides a park-like setting for exploring history. Free guided walking tours of the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery are led by Old City Cemetery Committee docents. Self-guided tours are encouraged at all times.
